Serbia Montenegro: Finding Similarities
Center for Development of Serbia organized, in collaboration with Pax Christi Netherlands and its financial support, two conferences about the relationship between Serbia and Montenegro with title: Serbia Montenegro finding similarities, Dialogue as a way to European Integration. The first one took place in Budva, Montenegro (13-16 September 2001) and the second one in Belgrade (11-14 October 2001).
The aim of the conferences was to initiate a dialogue on the relations between Serbia and Montenegro by looking through a prism of regional and European integration processes. Furthermore, the goal was to identify common interests and necessities (political, economic and regarding national minorities), which will remain present regardless of the future status of the Federation and the degree in which the two republics will be connected.
According to the main aims of these conferences we gathered young officials from different state institutions, members of three parliaments, mid-level representatives of political parties and activists from non-governmental organizations in Montenegro and Serbia.
Moreover, prominent domestic and international experts, diplomatic representatives accredited in Yugoslavia, as well as officials of international organizations and agencies were included as speakers: Vesna Perovic President of Parliament of Montenegro, Momcilo Perisic Vice - president of Serbian Government, Danijel Cvijeticanin - Adviser to President of FRY, Slobodan Samardzic - Adviser to President of FRY, Blagoje Grahovac - Adviser to President of Montenegro, Igor Luksic Spokesman of Democratic Party of Socialists, Radmila Hrustanovic Mayor of Belgrade, Djordje Pribilovic Mayor of Budva, Srdjan Darmanovic Center for Democracy, Petar Ivanovic Center for Enterpreunership, Vojislav Stanovcic - Academician, Refik Secibovic Faculty of Economy, Kees J.R. Klompenhouwer, Ambassador, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Jean Pierre Bybeck Royal Embassy of Belgium, Hugo Klijn Councillor, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Karel Ros Pax Christi Netherlands, Tobias Noll Konrad Adenauer Shtiftung, Zoran Lutovac Institute for Social Sciences, Garry Collins, OSCE, and Francois Friedrich, Council of Europe.
At the end of both conferences the participants produced during workshops a declaration with recommendations regarding the existing problem in relationship between Serbia and Montenegro for the public and state officials. Those declarations with recommendations were given to all printed and electronic media for broadcasting. |
