Promotion of Local Civic Initiative

The continuation of the project "Young Community Leaders Promotion" is being implemented with the support of Fund for an Open Society, Serbia. As in the previous project, the aim is to educate young people about taking an analytic approach to identified problems in local community. Their task is to present the resolution of problems in the form of an Action Plan to their fellow citizens via panel discussions and TV debates. By doing this they are setting an example to citizens that they themselves can actively take place in solving different problems in their communities. The whole process inspires hope in young people that they should and can actively participate in decision making processes, first at a local and then at a national level.

The project is being implemented in the following seven towns in Serbia: Vrbas, Smederevska Palanka, Uzice, Blace, Bor, Majdanpek and Paracin. The following are local NGOs coordinators: Toplica Center for Democracy and Human Rights from Prokuplje, European Movement in Smederevska Palanka, Center for Development of Non Profit Sector in Western Serbia from Uzice, Alternative Citizens Parliament from Paracin, humanitarian group Aurora from Bor, European Movement in Serbia - Local Council from Majdanpek.

A press conference was held on November 19th, in Belgrade Media Center.

A collection of Action Plans "The Second Step toward Resolution", in Serbian, can be seen on the page publications.
