Educational Promotion of Democratic Values I - ABC of Democracy, The First Edition
Center for Development of Serbia organized a series of educational seminars in 12 towns in Serbia, with an idea of promotion of democratic values among high school graduates. During the seminars every graduate who participated received a copy of the ABC of Democracy, a modern source book which gave an easy to read information about the functioning of the modern democratic society. The goal of this project was to show to the high school graduates, who for the first time were able to vote, how one democratic society founded on the rule of law, respect for human rights and market economy functions, thus contributing to overall democratic development of Serbia.
Educational Seminars
Educational Seminars were held in 12 towns in Serbia Subotica, Novi Sad, Vrsac, Belgarde, Kragujevac, Uzice, Zajecar, Kraljevo, Leskovac, Nis, Presevo and Prokuplje. 1179 graduates attended the seminars. Program of the seminars included:
- Interactive lecture with the topic: Society in transition How to create a democracy
- Debate with the topic: Tyranny v. Democracy
Seminal lecturers were: Prof. Cedomir Cupic, PhD, Prof. Zarko Trebjesanin, PhD, Prof. Ratko Bozovic, PhD, Miroslav Prokopijevic, PhD, Slobodan Markovic,, Radovan Pavlovic, Nenad Djordjevic and Lazar Maricevic. Debate participants were members of Debate club "Open communication" from Belgrade and Nis.
ABC of Democracy
ABC of Democracy A guide to a modern Democratic Society is a practical and easy-to-read guide to the democratic society. In a concise way, it provides relevant information about conditions for successful functioning of democracy through following chapters: Democratic government, Elections and Political Parties, Rule of Law, Civil Society, Free Market, Historical Heritage of Serbia as Obstacle and Stimuli for Democracy, Yugoslav political System, Protection of Human Rights, Criminal procedure, Decentralization and Local government. The book was printed in three languages Serbian, Hungarian and Albanian.
This project was realised with support from the Serbian Education Ministry and through cooperation with several organizations (Contact Serbia Subotica Office, Toplica Center for democracy and Human Rights and Teachers Union of Vojvodina) The project was supported by the US Embassy in Belgrade. |
